The 332nd Fighter Group was formed in 1941 at Tuskegee Army Air Field, Alabama. It was made up of exclusively African-Americans at a time when the US Military was segregated, and Black Americans were subject to widespread discrimination in the Armed Forces.
The 332nd would overcome countless obstacles to become one of the most admired and formidable Fighter Squadrons of WWII, breaking down barriers and smashing stereotypes in the process. They became known by their fellow fliers as the 'Red Tails', due to the distinctive Red Tails of their P-51 Mustangs. The Unit was disbanded in 1948 when segregation in the military was finally ended by President Truman.
