Made by the Douglas Aircraft Company, it was also known as the Gooney Bird & the Dakota (an acronym used by the British & Australians composed of the letters DACoTA for Douglas Aircraft Co. Transport Aircraft).
It served in all theatres of WWII, flying tons of vital supplies to front line troops, evacuating the wounded, dropping paratroopers and towing gliders. The C-47 depicted here is D-Day Veteran 'Night Fright'.
